Welcome to Contemporary Art Studio

Where creation and Exhibition come together

Tucked away in the charming town of Wassenaar, just minutes from the heart of The Hague, Contemporary Art Studio is a unique creative space where art comes to life. After an inspiring chapter in Houston, Texas and a return to The Netherlands in 2018, I found the perfect setting to both create and exhibit my work under one roof.

This open-concept studio invites you to step inside the artistic process. During designated Open Studio days, visitors are welcome to explore not only completed works, but also the evolution of pieces in progress. It’s an intimate, behind-the-scenes glimpse into how emotions, textures, and ideas take shape on canvas.

Meet the Artist: Liane Anna Schaefer

An intuitive journey from healing hands to expressive art

Born near the cultural crossroads of Germany, Luxembourg, and France, I’ve always been shaped by diversity—of landscapes, cultures, and perspectives. This early exposure continues to influence the way I see and interpret the world around me. Before dedicating myself fully to art, I worked as an osteopath in Germany, using my hands to intuitively connect with the human body. That same sense of touch and sensitivity now flows into every canvas I create.

Contemporary Art Studio

Today, I live and work in the serene town of Wassenaar, where I transform emotion into form through art. Nature is my greatest muse, its patterns, textures, contrasts, and rhythms serve as an endless source of inspiration. I don't attempt to reproduce what I see, but rather translate the feeling it evokes into visual language. My pieces often blur the boundary between painting and sculpture, inviting the viewer to not just see, but to feel the work through its layered, tactile surfaces.

I studied traditional oil painting for six years with Antonio Loro, an internationally known artist, teacher, conservator, and restorer of fine art. In this period I also learned about the use of mixed media and basic pigments while developing my own contemporary technique, one that weaves together classical methods with an expressive, mixed-media approach. Loro described my work as “informalist”, a deeply personal, intuitive form of expression where texture, emotion, and composition converge to create dreamlike, otherworldly atmospheres.

Each piece is a reflection of how I absorb the natural world, visually, emotionally, and physically, and give it new life through my art.
